Mud, waffles, cowbells, and all the madness that exemplifies cyclocross are usually reserved for the fall in most parts of the country. In South Florida, however, the season just got started.

The Oleta River Adventure Association (ORAA) hosted a weekend of 'cross racing January 9-10 at the Oleta River State Park. Saturday's race featured high winds, constant rain and temperatures in the low 40's. The skies let up on Sunday, but thermometers continued to drop into the low 30's - featuring one of the coldest days in Miami in a decade.

Spectators were treated to coffee, donuts and waffles, and cheered on racers battling it out on two different and very challenging courses over the weekend.

Note: The footage shown here is from Sunday, January 10. I was too busy racing, helping with the course, and trying to stave off hypothermia on Saturday to shoot. Big thanks to John Voss, the ORAA, and Mother Nature for putting on such a fun event.
